چکیده

Fifty-three patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) were included in this study (25 females & 28 males) and followed-up from October 2003 till October 2005 included for the evidence of acute transformation. Twenty-one patients (39.6%) transformed to acute phase , 16 patients(76.1%) of them transformed during the first 4 years of diagnosis. Fifteen patients (71.4 %) ) transformed to acute myeloid leukaemia and 6 patients (28.6 %) transformed to acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. The mean age was 36 years with range of 16-60 years. The most common presentation of patients experiencing the acute transformation were fever (95%), splenomegaly (66%) and bone pain (57%). The mean survival of acute transformation was 5.3 months.

Chronic myeloid leukaemia occurring in a patient with hairy cell leukaemia.

Occurrences of second malignancies in hairy cell leukaemia are well recognised. Most of these malignancies are either solid tumours or lymphoproliferative disorders. The association of myeloproliferative disorders with hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) is very rare. This report describes a case of a patient with HCL who after remaining in remission developed Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic my...

Reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 8 and 9 in atypical chronic myeloid leukaemia.

A balanced translocation t(8;9) (p11;q34) was present in the peripheral blood, bone marrow, and spleen cells of a patient with Ph negative chronic myeloid leukaemia. Subsequent transformation into acute leukaemia was associated with the emergence of trisomy 8 and der(8)(8qter----cen----8p11::9q34----9qter). This is the third reported case of t(8;9) (p11;q34) and raises the question of the role ...

Semiquantitative analysis of lactoferrin deficiency in neutrophil polymorphonuclear leucocytes in various haematological and non-haematological disease was carried out by scoring polymorphonuclear leucocytes stained for lactoferrin by the immunoperoxidase method. The staining patterns for lactoferrin were classified into four types (0-III) based on the intensity of reaction, and the sum of the ...

Life-threatening hypophosphataemia developed in a 47 year old woman with blastic crisis of chronic myelogenous leukaemia. The patient's hospitalization was characterized by reciprocal relationship between her white cell count and the serum phosphorus levels. The patient did not demonstrate any of the usual causes of profound hypophosphataemia. The postulated mechanism of this patient's hypophos...
